When a board-topper like Bralen Trice slides to Round 2, Pick 24, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Ali pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a No. 1 receiver, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 56 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Somehow Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was still sitting there in the 87th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nothing to complain about; Khyree Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Rasheen Ali at pick 174, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Turner Corcoran at Round 6, Pick 37 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Chad Lindberg in the 245th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
