Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Tre Harris got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at Round 5, Pick 31. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a featured back, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
You do not let a linebacker like Jalon Walker reach Round 2, Pick 12 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to the 76th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at pick 148 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tre Harris in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zy Alexander in pick No. 170 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kyle Kennard at slot 173 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cam Skattebo at the 186th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
