The war room fell hard for EJ Smith, and it showed at the 220th overall pick: 106 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Dart steal is the beam this whole class leans on. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get a centerpiece for the ground game at fair value.
Tory Horton at the 62nd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Shilo Sanders graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tahj Brooks in slot 122 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach for Brennan Presley in Round 4, Pick 29; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, DJ Campbell in pick No. 126 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Alfred Collins at No. 154 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Jaxson Dart was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 28, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Steve Linton at the 186th pick, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
EJ Smith at pick 220 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
