Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys let Golday fall into their laps, and walked away with a F.

The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. It bottoms out at a F.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Crawford pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board.

They are betting Crawford proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Landing Golday that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Caleb Downs · S · rank 1
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill hitter at safety. More want than need.
R1.6 · Pick 6 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
In pick 6 they get a centerpiece for the ground game at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
In the 24th overall pick they get the heartbeat of the defense. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Omar Cooper Jr. · WR · rank 34
No drama and no debate, Omar Cooper Jr. went about where he belonged in slot 34. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · D'Angelo Ponds · CB · rank 48
Value with a capital V on D'Angelo Ponds in Round 3, Pick 1, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 58
Jake Golday at pick No. 92 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Domonique Orange · DT · rank 78
Somehow Domonique Orange was still sitting there in pick 104, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Keyron Crawford · DE-EDGE · rank 130
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Keyron Crawford, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
R5.3 · Pick 143 · Jaeden Roberts · OG · rank 147
A straight-up fair deal on Jaeden Roberts at pick No. 143, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Malik Benson · WR · rank 140
They read the board right and Malik Benson was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 12. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Febechi Nwaiwu · OG · rank 171
Fair-plus on Febechi Nwaiwu, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.40 · Pick 180 · Marlin Klein · TE · rank 173
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marlin Klein in the 180th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.2 · Pick 183 · Seth McGowan · RB · rank 177
Nothing to complain about; Seth McGowan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Chase Roberts · WR · rank 207
Chase Roberts at the 217th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Jadon Canady · CB · rank 208
A slide stopped in the 218th overall pick, with Jadon Canady worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
