Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys lost the trade table, and the C- tells the story.

The Cowboys torched the value chart for Austin Reed, taking him 76 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Johnson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 52
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 62
Jonathon Brooks in the 56th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 104
The board had cheaper options than Khyree Jackson at slot 87, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 131
Cedric Gray at pick 113 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 177
Value said wait; Jordan Jefferson in the 124th overall pick says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 195
De'Corian Clark in No. 128 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 145
A slide stopped in the 161st overall pick, with Javion Cohen worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Cedric Johnson · DE-EDGE · rank 155
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Cedric Johnson in pick 174, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.39 · Pick 175 · Rasheen Ali · RB · rank 188
They jumped the gun on Rasheen Ali, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Jordan Whittington · WR · rank 263
They reached into another round for Jordan Whittington, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 239
A straight-up fair deal on Eric Gentry at slot 233, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Trey Wedig · OT · rank 260
They paid up for Trey Wedig at No. 245 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.29 · Pick 249 · Austin Reed · QB · rank 325
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Austin Reed well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
