For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Packers walked out of the weekend still thin at wide receiver, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
Sainristil falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
If Dallas Turner and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in the 46th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They read the board right and Kris Jenkins was the payoff at pick No. 58. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in pick 60. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 25, where Mike Sainristil graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
MarShawn Lloyd at the 98th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Josh Newton at No. 126 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tykee Smith in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Layden Robinson in pick No. 169, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
They did well to land Joe Milton III in No. 206, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
