Thirty-one other rooms let Edgerrin Cooper slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at Round 3, Pick 10. Highway robbery. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Reaching for Ford left real value on the table behind him. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 36 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 56th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Edgerrin Cooper in pick 74 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Kris Abrams-Draine was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 24. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trey Benson at pick No. 103 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
Javon Foster at the Round 4 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Jaylan Ford in slot 173 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Myles Murphy in the 213th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 231, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Whittington at the 242nd pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
