You build a draft on nights like this. Anthony Gould had no business being available in the 215th overall pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Adding Connor McGovern by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jonathon Brooks at the 56th overall pick is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 63, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dominick Puni at the 87th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Anthony Gould still on the board at pick 215. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Grayson Murphy at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Ro Torrence at No. 244 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Julian Pearl in slot 251 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
