Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Evan Anderson at the Round 6 slot is 61 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
On value alone, Thrash makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 24 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 51st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in slot 56, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A conviction pick on Audric Estime at pick No. 87 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jamari Thrash slid further than he should have, and the 108th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nelson Ceaser in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
James Williams in the 122nd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Cedric Gray slipping to pick 144 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Braelon Allen went about where he belonged in the 146th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had cheaper options than Austin Booker at Round 5, Pick 12, and it noticed. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Jaylen Wright at pick No. 156 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Kitan Oladapo at No. 174 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Michael Barrett at slot 190. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Christian Jones at par in No. 191, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Evan Anderson at pick 212, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid a round early for Dwight McGlothern in the 234th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; DeMonte Capehart in Round 7, Pick 25 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
