Nobody else had Evan Anderson anywhere near pick No. 212. The Cowboys did, by 61 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. That Oladapo pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 9 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
No drama and no debate, Jordan Morgan went about where he belonged in the Round 1 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Patrick Paul at the 56th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 57. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cooper Beebe in No. 75 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Jamari Thrash at slot 87, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
James Williams in slot 122 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They liked Jordan Travis enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Braelon Allen at the 127th pick, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Keith Randolph Jr. at pick 145 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Michael Barrett. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kitan Oladapo in Round 6, Pick 14 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jawhar Jordan at No. 201 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Evan Anderson this early at the 212th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Nathaniel Watson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dwight McGlothern at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Hayden Hatten at pick 245, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
