If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Hayden Hatten at pick No. 245 is 56 spots clear of where he belonged.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Jordan pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.1 · Pick 33 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 52
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 33, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 54
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
The board had cheaper options than Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.19 · Pick 119 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
Braelon Allen at No. 119 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 173
Jaylan Ford at pick 174 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 202
Jawhar Jordan in the 212th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Evan Anderson · DL · rank 273
Evan Anderson in No. 220 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.20 · Pick 240 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 249
A premium they did not need to pay, Dwight McGlothern a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Hayden Hatten · WR · rank 301
They reached into another round for Hayden Hatten, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
