If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Hayden Hatten at pick No. 245 is 56 spots clear of where he belonged.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Jordan pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 33, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had cheaper options than Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Braelon Allen at No. 119 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaylan Ford at pick 174 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
