The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Devin Neal, the No. 84 name on the board, in slot 211.
Reaching for Crenshaw-Dickson left real value on the table behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.24
· Pick 24
· Shavon Revel Jr.
· CB
· rank 26
In pick No. 24 they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.12
· Pick 44
· Malaki Starks
· S
· rank 12
Malaki Starks at the 44th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.12
· Pick 76
· Omarion Hampton
· RB
· rank 30
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in slot 76, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.14
· Pick 78
· Deone Walker
· DT
· rank 67
Value with a capital V on Deone Walker in No. 78, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.13
· Pick 114
· Demetrius Knight Jr.
· LB
· rank 61
They barely believed it either: Demetrius Knight Jr. still on the board at the 114th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.13
· Pick 150
· Darius Alexander
· DT
· rank 132
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick 150 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.33
· Pick 170
· Jared Wilson
· C
· rank 108
Jared Wilson in Round 5, Pick 33 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.36
· Pick 173
· Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
· OT
· rank 264
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson this early at the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.37
· Pick 174
· Dorian Strong
· CB
· rank 173
Dorian Strong in the 174th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.15
· Pick 190
· Barrett Carter
· LB
· rank 83
The board fumbled Barrett Carter all the way to slot 190, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.36
· Pick 211
· Devin Neal
· RB
· rank 84
You do not let a running back like Devin Neal reach the 211th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.33
· Pick 249
· Ollie Gordon II
· RB
· rank 174
Somehow Ollie Gordon II was still sitting there in pick 249, and they pounced on premier running back value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
