If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Cowboys, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Getting Estime where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
The cost of the Owens reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 31 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
A conviction pick on Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 56 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kiran Amegadjie in the 73rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Brenden Rice at slot 98 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Audric Estime was the payoff at pick 119. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Justin Rogers at the 174th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 36, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A slide stopped in the Round 6 slot, with Kendall Milton worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Owens in the 233rd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Tyrice Knight in Round 7, Pick 24 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
