The trade table was a mismatch, and the Cowboys were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Owens reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Ford at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had cheaper options than T'Vondre Sweat at slot 34, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Worthy at Round 2, Pick 24 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trey Benson at No. 94 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mohamed Kamara. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kalen King in pick 133 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Jaylan Ford come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyler Owens at the 233rd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tyrice Knight a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
