The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Anthony Belton fell into the Round 5 slot.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nice patience on Omarion Hampton, who had no business lasting to pick 44. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Xavier Watts at Round 3, Pick 12 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jordan Phillips at slot 149 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Anthony Belton in No. 170 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cobee Bryant. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Jeffrey Bassa still on the board at the Round 5 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Logan Brown at the 188th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 211 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Torricelli Simpkins III in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
