You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Cowboys spent pick 87 on Maason Smith while quarterback, tight end and other spots sat unaddressed. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The cost of the Brooks reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
They went early on Adonai Mitchell in the Round 1 slot, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jonathon Brooks. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 24. Quarterback, tight end and other spots needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nehemiah Pritchett. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Christian Jones in slot 174 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Turner Corcoran in pick No. 212. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 245 with a little surplus value in Eric Gentry. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
