Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the No. 51 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 92. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the Green reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Adding Quincy Williams by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 20 they get the heartbeat of the defense, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In slot 24 they get a three-down second-level presence. The biggest hole, addressed.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in pick No. 92, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Treydan Stukes is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Skyler Gill-Howard in Round 5, Pick 12 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A slide stopped in the 177th pick, with Kevin Coleman Jr. worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Taylen Green at pick 180 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Harrison Wallace III in the 218th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
