Thirty-one other rooms let Max Melton slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at pick 87. Highway robbery.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Tupuola-Fetui reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Kingsley Suamataia in the 56th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Keon Coleman at No. 58 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who had no business lasting to pick No. 74. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Christian Haynes higher than Round 3, Pick 15, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Max Melton was still sitting there in the 87th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Blake Corum in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at pick 126, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
