There is reaching, and then there is Barryn Sorrell at pick 211. The Cowboys jumped the board by 117 and dared it to prove them wrong. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Muhammad at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Deone Walker at the 44th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
A big swing on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at Round 5, Pick 11, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Jaishawn Barham in pick 170 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ollie Gordon II at pick No. 172 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Jabbar Muhammad still on the board at slot 190. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wild overpay on Barryn Sorrell in slot 211, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A minor itch, scratched.
KJ Jefferson at the 249th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with John Williams worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
