Call it larceny. Bud Clark sat on the board until No. 127, and the 49ers did not need to be asked twice. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. The Roberts reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Caleb Lomu in No. 27, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for LT Overton in Round 2, Pick 26, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Bud Clark here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board had Michael Trigg higher than pick 133, and the tight end fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Jaeden Roberts at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Will Lee III is a better player than the 139th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
