Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chargers were there to profit. A.J. Haulcy, the No. 50 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 86th pick.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get an anchor for the defensive front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Gennings Dunker in pick No. 55 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
A.J. Haulcy at Round 3, Pick 22 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
Julian Neal at the 123rd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Aaron Anderson was still sitting there in No. 204, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
