Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Mike Washington Jr., the No. 75 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 109th pick.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Jacas left real value on the table behind him.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge, though they paid up to get him.
In the 29th overall pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Gabe Jacas in Round 2, Pick 8 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Christen Miller, who had no business lasting to pick No. 74. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Mike Washington Jr. at the 109th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They read the board right and Eli Raridon was the payoff at pick 148. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Louis Moore in slot 169, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kevin Coleman Jr. at No. 176 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
