Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jay Higgins got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at the Round 5 slot. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Every board in the league had Lacy lower, and that gap is the story. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Need was not the driver here.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luther Burden III in the 44th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Omarion Hampton all the way to pick No. 78, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Billy Bowman Jr. at pick 150 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
You do not let a linebacker like Jay Higgins reach the 169th pick and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Quinshon Judkins in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nice patience on Mykel Williams, who had no business lasting to slot 171. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in No. 190, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Kyren Lacy in the 209th overall pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
