They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Garrett Nussmeier, 48 picks early at pick No. 33. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
McAlister falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 16th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Garrett Nussmeier. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Anthony Hill Jr. in slot 44, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Davison Igbinosun at No. 103 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Parker Brailsford at the Round 4 slot is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tanner Koziol is a better player than the 179th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 228 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for Terion Stewart in Round 7, Pick 26; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
