The Texans looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Nicholas Singleton at Round 3, Pick 5 regardless, 44 picks early. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Ramsey value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Caleb Banks at par in Round 2, Pick 6, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Drew Shelton well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Nicholas Singleton at No. 69, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kamari Ramsey in slot 106 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They did well to land DeMonte Capehart in the 141st overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Beau Stephens, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Chase Roberts still on the board at pick No. 243. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
