There is conviction, and then there is this. The Titans took Tyler Onyedim a full 20 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Getting Royer where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Colton Hood at pick 35 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach on Malachi Fields in slot 66; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
They let Kyle Louis come to them and pounced at the 101st overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tyler Onyedim in pick No. 142 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Joe Royer in the 144th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Seth McGowan. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, DJ Campbell in the 194th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brandon Cleveland in pick 225 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
