The Cowboys did not so much draft Zion Logue as overpay for him, 42 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McCaffrey. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the 59th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Braelon Allen at Round 3, Pick 24 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Beaux Limmer in pick No. 127, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Steal is underselling it; Luke McCaffrey at slot 174 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: M.J. Devonshire at No. 216 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Trevin Wallace at No. 233 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
