The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 79 spots for Kimani Vidal, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Williams. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Sedrick Van Pran at the 56th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Cedric Gray in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in the 89th pick, with Mike Sainristil worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wild overpay on Kimani Vidal in pick No. 174, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Evan Anderson at pick 216 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Michael Barrett at the 244th overall pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
