The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Smael Mondon Jr. fell into Round 6, Pick 15.
Griffith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to the 44th overall pick, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Alfred Collins in the 76th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jackson Slater at pick 150 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Lathan Ransom in slot 170 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 172 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at Round 6, Pick 15 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jaylen Reed in No. 211, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Value said wait; Thor Griffith in pick 249 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
