The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Jeremiah Walker, 33 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 24 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Bucky Irving at slot 87, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; Frank Gore Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sam Hartman. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Jeremiah Walker in pick No. 245 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
