You could see the war room lean forward. Cornelius Johnson at Round 6, Pick 41 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Payton Wilson at pick No. 56 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Bucky Irving at par in No. 87, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Walter Rouse was the payoff at slot 174. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Cornelius Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in the 233rd overall pick, with Frank Gore Jr. worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 24: Edefuan Ulofoshio for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
