Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the Cowboys: C+.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jha'Quan Jackson, 54 picks early at pick 173. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 30
In the 24th overall pick they get an enforcer at safety. More want than need.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 102
Value said wait; Dominick Puni in slot 60 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 136
Cedric Gray at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.36 · Pick 99 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 139
They reached into another round for Cam Hart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 163
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylen Wright. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Jha'Quan Jackson · WR · rank 227
A wild overpay on Jha'Quan Jackson in pick No. 173, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Hunter Nourzad · C · rank 254
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Hunter Nourzad well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 259
The board had cheaper options than Nathaniel Watson at Round 7, Pick 22, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
