Dallas Cowboys

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D-.

The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D-.

They are betting Anderson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Magee falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · JC Latham · OT · rank 18
In slot 12 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 27
In the 24th overall pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 39
A straight-up fair deal on Chop Robinson at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 60
T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 56 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 90
They took Sedrick Van Pran at par in the 87th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 96
They let Audric Estime come to them and pounced at No. 110. The roster fit checks out.
R4.22 · Pick 122 · James Williams · S · rank 130
The board had cheaper options than James Williams at Round 4, Pick 22, and it noticed. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Luke McCaffrey · QB · rank 137
Luke McCaffrey at pick 134 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
A premium they did not need to pay, Braelon Allen a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.10 · Pick 146 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 162
They paid up for Joe Milton III at slot 146 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 175
Curtis Jacobs at Round 5, Pick 38 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Jordan Magee · LB · rank 193
They robbed the room for Jordan Magee here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Evan Anderson · DL · rank 273
A real head-scratcher, Evan Anderson in the 245th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.32 · Pick 252 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 249
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dwight McGlothern in pick 252. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · Brennan Armstrong · QB · rank 271
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brennan Armstrong in pick No. 253, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
