There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cowboys started one anyway for Cashius Howell, 24 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Milroe falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 16th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
Jalen Milroe is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
They took Ollie Gordon II at par in slot 78, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Jayden Higgins in pick No. 117, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cashius Howell in Round 5, Pick 15, miles early. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Logan Brown in pick 169. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Davison Igbinosun at Round 5, Pick 32, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Tonka Hemingway went about where he belonged in the 171st overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Dasan McCullough at the 189th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Garrett Dellinger at pick No. 208 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
