Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Kevin Winston Jr., the No. 93 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 168th overall pick.
Reaching for Griffith left real value on the table behind him. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Adding Ladd McConkey by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
Nick Emmanwori at the 44th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
TreVeyon Henderson at pick 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Jalon Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Kevin Winston Jr. all the way to the 168th pick, and they scooped it up. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Miles Frazier in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Joshua Farmer in pick No. 173 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at slot 186 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Thor Griffith in No. 209 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Shilo Sanders in pick No. 248, and that is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
