Dallas Cowboys

The phones sank the Cowboys this weekend: D-.

Nobody had Gerry Bohanon this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 198 spots to get him at pick No. 247.

The Mondon Jr. pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 7
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a disruptor off the edge. More want than need.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 17
They robbed the room for Nick Emmanwori here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 40
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at No. 75 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 62
The board had Alfred Collins higher than the Round 3 slot, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
R4.11 · Pick 112 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 61
TreVeyon Henderson in slot 112 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.12 · Pick 113 · Evan Stewart · WR · rank 98
A slide stopped in the 113th overall pick, with Evan Stewart worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.2 · Pick 139 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 176
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.8 · Pick 145 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 100
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 145 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 106
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in the 170th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.34 · Pick 171 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 114
Steal is underselling it; Cam Skattebo at pick 171 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Nazir Stackhouse · DL · rank 186
Nazir Stackhouse at the 187th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 209
No edge and no loss on Miles Frazier in slot 209; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Gerry Bohanon · QB · rank 445
A wild overpay on Gerry Bohanon in No. 247, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
