Dallas Cowboys

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cowboys and Williams: A-.

Call it larceny. Savion Williams sat on the board until the 170th pick, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Luther Burden III · WR · rank 13
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 30
A slide stopped in the 44th overall pick, with Omarion Hampton worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Tate Ratledge · OG · rank 74
Tate Ratledge in Round 3, Pick 12 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.13 · Pick 114 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 67
They will replay Deone Walker at pick 114 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Savion Williams · WR · rank 98
You do not let a wide receiver like Savion Williams reach pick No. 170 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Ajani Cornelius · OT · rank 115
Ajani Cornelius at No. 172 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Mello Dotson · CB · rank 139
Mello Dotson in slot 174 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
