You could see the war room lean forward. Alijah Huzzie at the 249th overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. The Jonathan Taylor deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Jahdae Barron in Round 1, Pick 14; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Omarion Hampton, who had no business lasting to No. 44. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Barrett Carter in pick 100 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tez Johnson at the 116th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan Phillips in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Earnest Greene III at pick No. 170. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dillon Gabriel in the 172nd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pat Bryant in slot 174 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Joshua Gray higher than the Round 6 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Quincy Riley in slot 191. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Damien Martinez at No. 192 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Cam Horsley at par in pick No. 211, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Addison West all the way to the 234th pick, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Alijah Huzzie at the 249th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
