The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A.
That Cowing pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
The Commanders paired the rookies with proven help, Ja'Whaun Bentley leading the way.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
A tidy bit of business in slot 37, where Graham Barton graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Chris Braswell in the 40th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Braden Fiske in the 60th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kamren Kinchens in pick No. 67 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Payton Wilson at No. 69 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
Kiran Amegadjie is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Mike Sainristil in Round 3, Pick 37 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Elijah Jones in No. 139 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Dallin Holker at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 18 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Erick All at the 222nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
