The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Landing McClellan that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
They will replay Terrion Arnold at slot 36 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Morgan at pick No. 40 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kingsley Suamataia in the 67th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Austin Booker at Round 3, Pick 14 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Brenden Rice in the 100th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Trevor Keegan in No. 139; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dallin Holker at pick 152 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Jase McClellan still on the board at No. 222. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
