The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

Every board in the league had Solomon lower, and that gap is the story. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

Landing Abrams-Draine that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.5 · Pick 5 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
They paid sticker price for Jayden Daniels in the Round 1 slot, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 31
They did well to land Adonai Mitchell in pick No. 36, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 28
A slide stopped in slot 37, with Tyler Guyton worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 74
No drama and no debate, Cade Stover went about where he belonged in No. 67. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 65
Fair-plus on Christian Haynes, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Javon Solomon · OLB-EDGE · rank 117
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in Round 3, Pick 26 leaves edge rusher for later.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 81
Kris Abrams-Draine at the 100th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 115
Matt Goncalves at pick 125 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 154
Kitan Oladapo at No. 152 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 183
Jordan Jefferson in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 212
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nathaniel Watson in slot 222. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 226
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Frank Gore Jr.. It fills a real need, too.
