The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The Phillips pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Jayden Daniels at No. 12 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tyler Guyton in Round 2, Pick 12 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Braden Fiske at pick No. 77 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, DJ James at the 112th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Andru Phillips at pick 190 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Blake Watson was the payoff at the 234th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
