They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. On value alone, Devonshire makes the weekend a net positive. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
If Jayden Daniels and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Jordan Morgan at slot 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in the 40th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cade Stover in Round 3, Pick 3 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 78 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A surprising call. With edge rusher and interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent No. 100 on Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE they were not short of.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Anthony Gould at the 139th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Isaiah Davis went about where he belonged in the 155th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Trente Jones slipping to No. 206 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: M.J. Devonshire still on the board at pick No. 213. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Evan Williams worth more than the price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nathaniel Watson in pick 236 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
