The real work happened on the phones. The Packers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Clark steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Tyler Linderbaum pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kamren Kinchens in slot 41 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nothing to complain about; Patrick Paul went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ray Davis at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cedric Gray. A minor itch, scratched.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Magee in pick 203; it is a wash and a sensible one. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They read the board right and De'Corian Clark was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 42. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Jawhar Jordan in pick No. 223, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
