Somebody took the Vikings to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. However the rest shakes out, Corum at that price is a win they earned.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.5
· Pick 5
· Jayden Daniels
· QB
· rank 7
In No. 5 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.11
· Pick 11
· Jared Verse
· DE-EDGE
· rank 11
In pick No. 11 they get a premier pass rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.26
· Pick 26
· Byron Murphy II
· DL
· rank 18
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a wrecking ball inside at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
R2.25
· Pick 57
· Christian Haynes
· OG
· rank 62
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.29
· Pick 92
· Kris Abrams-Draine
· CB
· rank 82
Kris Abrams-Draine at the 92nd overall pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.8
· Pick 108
· Blake Corum
· RB
· rank 86
They robbed the room for Blake Corum here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.29
· Pick 129
· James Williams
· S
· rank 125
A tidy little value on James Williams in pick 129, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.2
· Pick 138
· Jarrian Jones
· CB
· rank 137
By-the-book stuff, Jarrian Jones at the 138th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R5.21
· Pick 157
· Mason McCormick
· OT
· rank 146
Mason McCormick slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 21 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.31
· Pick 167
· Jacob Cowing
· WR
· rank 147
The board fumbled Jacob Cowing all the way to slot 167, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.2
· Pick 177
· Jordan Travis
· QB
· rank 173
Jordan Travis in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.13
· Pick 188
· Kamal Hadden
· CB
· rank 169
Circle this one: Kamal Hadden at the 188th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.10
· Pick 230
· JD Bertrand
· LB
· rank 221
Value with a capital V on JD Bertrand in pick 230, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
