The war room fell hard for Davin Vann, and it showed at slot 220: 51 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Elic Ayomanor in pick 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cam Skattebo in the 106th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Anthony Belton, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 17. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Seth McLaughlin in pick No. 144 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach for Jake Briningstool in No. 158; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cam Jackson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Hancock in the 209th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on R.J. Mickens in pick No. 217, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Davin Vann at pick 220, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Hayden Conner in No. 238, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
