Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick No. 171 on Gerry Bohanon, a name most had 266 spots down the list. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.15 · Pick 15 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In pick No. 15 they get a centerpiece for the ground game at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.20 · Pick 20 · Mason Graham · DT · rank 7
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, and a steal at that.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 17
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 69
They did well to land Deone Walker in slot 76, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 40
Jihaad Campbell in the 77th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.16 · Pick 117 · Elic Ayomanor · WR · rank 96
Elic Ayomanor at No. 117 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.20 · Pick 121 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 102
Nicholas Singleton in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
R4.22 · Pick 123 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 171
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 123rd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.14 · Pick 152 · Jake Majors · C · rank 93
Jake Majors at pick 152 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.30 · Pick 168 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 130
Oronde Gadsden II at the 168th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 105
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 170 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Gerry Bohanon · QB · rank 437
They left a pile of value on the table to take Gerry Bohanon this early at No. 171. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Michael Taaffe · S · rank 148
You do not let a safety like Michael Taaffe reach slot 190 and blink. They did not. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 145
The board fumbled Raheim Sanders all the way to Round 6, Pick 34, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.34 · Pick 248 · Clay Webb · OG · rank 211
Somehow Clay Webb was still sitting there in the 248th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
