The phones were a trap the Raiders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The cost of the Laumea reach is exactly the players who went right after him. However the rest shakes out, Polk at that price is a win they earned.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Adonai Mitchell in pick 44. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They did well to land Caelen Carson in No. 72, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 77th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Sataoa Laumea at slot 112 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Darius Robinson went about where he belonged in pick No. 150. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Michael Barrett in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Watson at the 234th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
