The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Mason McCormick, No. 222, roughly 76 picks past where he belonged.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
So much rides on Brian Thomas Jr. that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 37 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at slot 43 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A tidy little value on Kingsley Suamataia in the 64th pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking T.J. Tampa at cornerback with quarterback open.
You do not let a running back like Jonathon Brooks reach pick No. 69 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Brandon Dorlus at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the 109th overall pick, where Gabriel Murphy graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Brenden Rice at Round 4, Pick 14 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Davis at Round 4, Pick 32. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Christian Jones at No. 137 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. The roster fit checks out.
Roger Rosengarten at the 153rd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
AJ Barner at pick No. 187 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Daijun Edwards was the payoff at slot 197. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaylan Ford at the Round 6 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Mason McCormick in the 222nd overall pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Delmar Glaze at slot 236 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
