The Jeremy Moussa selection is the head-turner. The Chargers reached 228 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left tight end open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Marvin Harrison Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 1. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
In slot 5 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
In No. 8 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in the 39th overall pick, where Emeka Egbuka graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Kamari Lassiter in pick 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Jonathon Brooks in Round 2, Pick 11, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nothing to complain about; Trey Benson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Roman Wilson at No. 108 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jonah Monheim in the 145th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Ainias Smith at Round 6, Pick 8 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ajani Cornelius in slot 185 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid up for Ricky Pearsall at pick No. 186 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jacob Dobbs in pick 192 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Toles well ahead of where he belonged. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Jefferson in No. 216 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jeremiah Walker in the 218th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Justin Eboigbe at pick No. 221 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jayson Jones this early at slot 226. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Aaron Lewis at the 228th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on J.J. Weaver at Round 7, Pick 9 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Hayden Hatten in pick 255, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jeremy Moussa at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
